Getting to Vang Vieng

 

By road, there are buses available from various points in Vientiane and Luang Prabang that depart to Vang Vieng (travel between them is 160km and 180km respectively). A local bus will cost approx USD2-4 and air-conditioned minibuses will cost around USD6-8. Upon arrival, buses will drop you off at an old runway, which serves as the bus station in Vang Vieng. Travel from here is a 5 minute walk across the tarmac to town - in other words, ignore the touts and cyclo drivers offering to take you into town.
