Laos - Vang Vieng Hotel Review

Very friendly hosts who were concerned for the welfare of guests at all times. There was some difficulty in communication, as I only had some knowledge of the language and the official host had to be away over the weekend I was there for a wedding. We enjoyed our stay at The Elephant Crossing very much. The location was fabulous - right on the river, with clean rooms and a very helpful staff. We like it that they hire local people as staff for their guesthouse.- 25/03/2010, Mr. Norman Rae

Although it was a very quiet time of year, the check in was quick and efficient and they were definately expecting us. I had left my phone at a previous hotel and the staff were happy to let me use their phone, at no extra charge, and they took and delivered messages for me during our stay very efficiently. we stayed in the bungalow, which was ok. the location is about 10 minutes to the "main" area of the city, and the room was clean enough, although the shower drain was clogged and there were slugs/lizards in the room. overall ok though!- 03/06/2010, Mr. Matthew Timmer

Hotel tres sympa dans un cadre de verdure, pas tres loin du centre ville (5-10min a pied) Personnel tres gentil, ne pas hesiter a les solliciter Piscine propre et entretenue Les maisons sur piloti (mainkabula) ont des parois tres minces, le bruit peut etre un peu derangeant si voisins bruyant ou si la musique techno du l'ile d'en face est a fond... The Cocoon has a nice location to stay in and breakfast was nice but the service we had there was not very good. Our room was only cleaned once in a 3 night stay, the outside light which they said would be fixed on our first night was not fixed and when checking out they tried to avoid giving us our deposit back and after making it clear we were in a hurry to catch a bus we were basically ignored for 20 minutes. The reviews that i read when i chose this guesthouse mentioned its cleanliness. This is not entirely true - the floor mats were filthy and looked as if they have not been washed for ages. Also, the owner had out us in a smaller room with mattresses with no lumbar support. He changed our room only when we gave these feedback. For such a standrad of room, this guesthouse is over-priced.
