Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative: 

The managers of D'Rose Resort @ Vangvieng are dedicated in highlighting the nature and beauty of Vang Vieng through their large and peaceful property. In doing so, the environment is preserved and enhanced, the local community is involved and their guests are spoilt with the rewards.

The idea of D'Rose Resort @ Vangvieng is that of a sanctuary. The Nam Song  river, the Pha Tang mountains and rice fields are all views from our traditional bungalows so we wanted to focus on the environment as opposed to the party life Vang Vieng is famous for.

We are 5 minutes walk away from the village centre but our huge property is quiet and peaceful and blends into the nature as you watch the locals fish, wash or water their animals by the river.

We have plans to build a butterfly sanctuary as the native butterfly varieties are incredible and we would like others to see them up close and learn about these amazing species.

Because we have so much space and food sources cannot always be reliable here, we have decided to reopen the old pig sty, breed chickens and start up the fish farm to guarantee freshness and quality in our Khamsouk restaurant.

A lovely local couple are also using our land to grow their own vegetables and herbs that we have access to and soon we will extend.

Along with the nature side we also have the creature comforts of a resort with our swimming pool, volleyball court and petanque field, next to our bar.

Last but not least our monkey children kK and Lulu were orphaned at a young age, the village monks raised and gave to D'Rose Resort @ Vangvieng as a friendship gift. They are well loved and a little cheeky, love hugs and bananas.

Not only is the environment preserved and the generosity of the owners are assisting the local community by allowing the spacious land to be utilised for rice growing, but all staff at D'Rose Resort @ Vangvieng, from the gardeners and housekeepers to receptionists and restaurant staff are treated fair and equal. Staff at D'Rose Resort @ Vangvieng are some of the highest paid employees in Vang Vieng together with receiving benefits and awarded for any overtime.
